Dr. Jangkhongam Doungel is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Mizoram University. He completed a prestigious Fulbright Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship Program in the Department of Political Science, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA in 2021. He is a Member of the Mizoram Local Government (Panchayati Raj) Drafting Committee, the Mizoram Boundary Committee, and the Mizoram Boundary Study Group Sub-Committee. He was a Member of the Research Core Team, established by the Home Ministry Commission on Centre-State Relations dealing with a Project on the Autonomous District Council with Professor David R. Syiemlieh as the Convenor.
In 1993, he completed his graduation with Honours in Political Science at Patkai Christian College, Nagaland, and obtained an M.A. (Political Science) with First Class (3rd Position in Manipur University) in 1996. He started his teaching career as Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Bethany Christian College, Churachandpur, Manipur from April 1996 to May 1997, and was a faculty member in the Department of Political Science, Government Lawngtlai College, Lawngtlai, Mizoram from May 1998 to July 2012, and then joined Department of Political Science, Mizoram University as Associate Professor in July 2012. He was Head of the Department with effect from July 2013 to July 2016, and promoted to the rank of Professor in July 2015.
His areas of specialization are Autonomous District Council (Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India), Local Government, and North East Studies. He has presented eighty-seven papers at seminars, and published four single-author books, one edited book, and two co-edited books. He has published thirty papers in journals, twenty-seven papers in edited volumes, and four papers in proceedings.
He completed a UGC Minor Research Project in 2010, and an ICSSR Major Research Project in 2016. He is a life member of the Indian Political Science Association, North East India Political Science Association, North East India Council for Social Science Research, North East India History Association, Mizo History Association, Kuki Research Forum, and a Life Member as well as Adviser of the Mizoram Political Science Association.
